*The Black Hills of South Dakota are more than just scenic beauty – they are considered sacred by the Lakota Sioux and nearly two dozen other tribes that claim the area as ancestral.

Learn about Native Lakota History through this special journey. Learning the culture and history of local Native Americans first peoples gives one a complete picture of the region and adds depth to any Retreat.

Past Retreat Itinerary:

Day 1

Attendees arrive at Rapid City Airport for pick up for meet and greet– Take you to our little Mountain  Retreat  , dinner, evening fire ceremony  to review our journey plans and vision for week, and connect the energy of the group.  welcome song and stories with Kevin

Day 2 –

Breakfast on the morning balcony overlooking a cathedral of trees and secluded woods, we gather and head out for the days Local Pow Wow,

Local Dancing, Singing, Music, Crafts, and Food


Healthy Buffet style breakfast, morning activity botanical walk on medicine plants with Local Native to learn the sacred ways of how plants where and still are today a source of health and healing.

We also are visited by a local Native Wisdom Keepers to learn more about the sacred lands, people and history, including “Winter count, and how this was done and why this was so important to the people.

Later we come in a sacred manner to make prayer ties for our “Inipi Ceremony” , also known as Purification lodge.  Note: (Lodge is a sacred and reverent experience of purification, cleansing and prayer, yet this is optional to enter lodge, know you may still be a part of ceremony by making prayer ties, and sitting outside the lodge joining your energy and spirit in a good way.

Day 3

Morning breakfast, energized  we head to the Sacred and Holy Mountain of “Mato Paha”, (Bear Butte),   See Buffalo graze in peace here.  Notable visitors like Chief Red Cloud, Crazy Horse, Sitting Bull and countless others made pilgrimages to this sacred site of Bear Butte, as native peoples still do today.  We walk these sacred grounds embracing legends and history , we participate in prayer and ceremony,  stopping along the mountain as called to connect in a deeper manner.  Afternoon we lunch, relax, and later evening dinner, and flute making with Kevin.  This is available skill to all.

Day 4

After breakfast, visit “Bear Lodge” this is the Native name for this geologic feature which protrudes out of the rolling prairie that surrounds the Black Hills.    The site is considered Sacred to the Lakota and other tribes that have a connection to the area. (also more commonly known as Devils Tower’ (You may recall this area was the film location of  Spielbergs famous “Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind”) , Here we walk the perimeter, and join for ancient ceremony and prayer at this sacred location, lunch, with Afternoon visit to the Crazy Horse Monument, amazing museum of Indian artifacts and history here.  Evening dinner, and a star filled night of mountain beauty.  Kevin shares his love and wisdom of Native Hoop Dancing.

Day 5

Early Morning Breakfast, head to the beautiful formations of the National State park “Badlands”, striking geologic deposits containing one of the world’s richest fossil beds. Ancient mammals such as the saber-toothed cat once roamed here. Adventure, Ceremony, Blessings and head back in time for dinner 

Day 6

After hot morning Breakfast, We Journey to Harneys Peak, (Native people refer to this sacred place as “Owl Maker Mountain”)  it was on this historic Mountain where Great Sioux Medicine Man, “Black Elk”,  received a  “Great Vision” when he was just nine years old,  *Author, John Neihardt recorded Black Elk’s words regarding his vision as follows:

“I was standing on the highest mountain of them all, and round about beneath me was the whole hoop of the world,  And while I stood there I saw more than I can tell and I understood more than I saw; for I was seeing in a sacred manner the shapes of all things in the spirit, and the shape of all shapes as they must live together like one being.”

As we honor the Spirit of Black Elk, and Great Mystery, we access our own inner vision , as Kevin lends his voice and heart to the Thunder beings with ancient and sacred song, we rejoice in being alive, and join our hearts and minds in the oneness of all creation,  time here for personal and or group prayer, ceremony,  , we walk backdown the this crystal mountain , take a dip in the crystal waters of the lake, enjoy dinner , evening gathering of Native wisdom, songs, flute , & stories.

Day 7

Breakfast on the porch, with singing birds and passing butterflies, we head to enjoy an underground adventure through  unique and special Caves – The Black Hills have some of the largest concentration of passageways in the world.

After lunch, journey over to Spearfish waterfalls quiet time breathe in the beauty of this area.  Evening dinner , night free time- to reflect or head into town of Deadwood S.D., where Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane once walked the streets, we discover the old legends and history of this town. Celebratory BBQ dinner at the B&B, Together we share closing ceremony.

Day 8

  Flying home out of RAPID CITY Airport (RAP)
